The goal of Active Ageing is to enhance opportunities for health and participation in social, economic, cultural, spiritual and civic affairs for those of the ageing population in order to enhance the quality of life for people as they age. We plan to do this by encouraging healthier lifestyle choices, helping the ageing population invest in health insurance, improving disability access, better addressing their social and mental needs through therapy and volunteerism, etc. This project is being conducted with the support of the National Services for Elders. The Social Services Ministry runs several Elders’ Clubs all over the country, we hope to gain access to the ageing population through these Elders Clubs and initiate our programs there. We have begun this project in Urelu, Jaffna, where we are in the process of setting up a Day Care Centre to host therapeutic and social activities for the target audience.
