I am a business undergraduate student from Riga Technical University. Spending my summer vacation in Sri Lanka, I decided to make the most of it by interning at the Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies from July until August.
The sole focus of my internship was on the upcoming, exciting project Workingwomen.lk. WorkingWomen.lk is the first website in Sri Lanka dedicated to creating opportunities for women in the island. The primary goal of the program is to help women in Sri Lanka to remain economically active in fields they have been trained in and wish to pursue. The secondary goal is to help women be on par with men in terms of employment opportunities.
I was given the various engaging tasks of developing the basic foundational text and design of the website. I was also responsible for formulating relevant marketing strategies the website can be based on, moreover identifying the various sources of revenue options the website can sustain its success on.
It was overall an enjoyable and productive experience, seeing my work being used in an exciting project that will eventually benefit the Sri Lankan community greatly. It was a great learning experience as I managed to sit in on meeting and experience the views of different business personalities.
